Learn to Play Home Poker Variations

This one should be played by anyone who loves to play with poker chips! If you wish to play for points or money, then value your chips with an amount desired like one point or one penny. Different colors can represent different amounts if you wish.

Follow the Queen is best with four players and this descriptive example is given using four players.

A normal deck of cards consisting of 53 playing cards is used, the dealer will deal thirteen cards to each player. The complicatedness of this game is because each player devises three sets of hands using the thirteen cards dealt recognized as the front hand, the middle hand and that back hand.

1. The Front Hand - Consists of only three cards.
2. The Middle Hand - Consists of only five cards but it has to outrank the front hand.
3. The Back Hand - The same rules apply as with the middle hand.

This game is played with two options on folding and it depends on your own personal preference. If players opt to have a folding option, usually they forfeit chips and the standard forfeiture is two chips. However, it’s more interesting when there is no folding option.

Players play each hand against one another, whoever wins the front hand using the standard set of poker rules from a royal flush to a high card wins one chip, and so on and so on. Because this is a time honored home poker game, some people play differently and if you do, it’s good to make sure that everyone understands the rules of play.

3-5-7

Beginning with the player on the left of the dealer, each player is dealt three cards. There are three rounds, in the first round all threes are wild, in the second all fives are wild and in the last all sevens are wild.

The object or the best possible hand is a three of a kind, a pair or a high card in some cases. Someone wins the first hand, but none of the cards are discarded. For the second hand everyone keeps their cards, the dealers just deals out two additional cards and now fives are wild and the winning hand can consist of a basic five card set. The last hand is dealt the same, each player by the last round should have a total of five cards from the previous deal and then the dealer deals two more for a total of seven, increasing the chances even greater and the chip pot grows with every hand.

Every time someone wins a hand a chip is given, if there’s tie then all of the players involved get a chip and the end of the three hands, who ever has the most chips gets the pot. It’s up to you once again, as to what the chips represent.

Guts

This is a little tricky because so many play Guts differently, but this is the most common form played.

Every player gets two cards, at this time anyone can opt to get out considering that only pairs and high cards count. Of the remaining players who are still in, whoever wins a hand is given a chip and when there are no more cards to be dealt, the last player with the most chips wins the game. Ultimately having more guts than the rest!

Razz

Razz is played exactly the same as 7 card stud in a sense only backwards! Each player gets seven cards as normal but the winning hand is determined by flipping poker rules upside down, literally. The winning hand in a Razz game would be a single solitary ace over a royal flush, so the player with the least, wins.

Follow The Queen

This one is another game played very similar to 7 card stud but all the queens are wild. Everyone plays a variation of up or down cards but usually the dealer deals two cards face down, the three cards face up and two down. If a queen is dealt face up, the card that follows is automatically wild too.

The highest five card poker hand wins and everyone stays on his or her toes.

These games are perfect home poker games to teach your children, play with neighbors or if you want to cheat that co-worker who won’t pay you back! Some are a tad bit complicated, while some other the other variations are quite simple and despite what you may think, most are traditional poker games that have been passed on through generations of poker players along with great stories to accompany them.
